Anthony Foley Testimonial Events

The Anthony Foley Testimonial, which is organised by friends and supporters of the rugby legend to mark his retirement at the end of this season, is built around three events run over the same number of days towards the end of May – May 27th, 28th and 29th – culminating with the Gala Banquet in the Hilton Hotel on Thursday night, May 29th. A significant portion of proceeds from the event will be donated to charity at Anthony’s insistence.

The three events are:

Golf ( 27-28th May )

The Anthony Foley Testimonial Golf Classic will be held over the 27th and 28th May at the Dromoland Castle Golf & Country Club. Up to 50 four balls will be competing against each other as well as local sports stars and celebrities on the wonderful par-72 course set in the parkland grounds of the regal estate. Four balls will be priced at €1500 - a range of discounts are on offer with the gala banquet.

An audience with Anthony
( 28th May )

This event promises to be a superb experience for the grass roots supporters of Munster and Irish rugby to mingle with some of the greats of the game and celebrate the magnificent career of Anthony Foley. The event on the evening of Wednesday 28th May will take place in the 2,000 capacity University of Limerick Arena, it will be run in a “This is Your Life” type format. The event will be compered by Today FM sports journalist Paul Collins and will involve a number of special guests, including former and present team-mates and coaches of Anthony. This informal and fun event will provide a fascinating insight into the career of this icon of Munster and Irish rugby, as seen by those closest to him.

Before and after, the attendees will get to mingle with Anthony and other guests on the night. The event is tailored specifically for the legion of loyal Munster and Ireland fans who would like to participate in this tribute testimonial and, at the same time, enjoy what promises to be a hugely entertaining evening.

Gala Banquet ( 29th May)

The three-day festivities for the Anthony Foley Testimonial will finish on a high-note with the Gala Banquet in the Hilton Hotel, Limerick on Thursday night, May 29th. In what promises to be an unforgettable evening, the event will be a blue ribband tribute to arguably one of the greatest number eights in Irish rugby history.

Stars of the game, both present and past, at provincial, national and international level will be in attendance to share in this special occasion and evidence of the universal recognition of Anthony’s status in the game is that international Rugby Hall of Fame inductee and one of Ireland’s best know businessmen Sir Anthony O’Reilly will fly in from the United States to deliver the key-note speech on the night. While best known in his latter years for his business achievements, Sir Anthony holds many distinctions from his rugby playing days, not least that in 1955 he was the youngest player to earn Lions selection (at 19 years of age) and scored on his Lions test debut before a then world record crowd of 95,000, at Ellis Park, Johannesburg. He scored a staggering and record 16 tries in all games on that tour.

In addition to stars of rugby past and present, a number of leading sports stars from other codes will also be present on the night, as well as well personalities from the entertainment world.

The event will commence with a drinks reception, followed by the gala dinner and key note speeches. Guests will also have the opportunity to get their hands on some priceless rugby memorabilia as well as some other attractive items in a public auction, while a silent auction will also be held for a range of other items.

A table of ten for the event is priced at €3,000 - a range of discounts are on offer in corporate packages for the three events.
